Chapter Three.
From an interview with TM:
"Yah, i went to a frat party last night.... Ended up on the dance floor...
There are two things which i started to doubt that night, the existence of
North Dakota and the concept of dancing. It seemed like everyone was just
getting bumped and jostled around. i seriously think that that is all that
dancing is, getting bumped around and flailing your arms to retain your balance,
that and stumbling around drunkely, bumping into other people."
"i started thinking about the idea of 'safety in numbers' last night...
i was out there on the dance floor, getting bumped around and trying to effect
some sort of movement which resembled 'dancing' and i figured that i probably
looked pretty stupid, but i didn't care. Not because everyone was drunk, tho
they were, but because i was a single body in the middle of a crowd of strangers.
Anonymity through large numbers, safety through anonymity..."
"I came back to the dorm sober, which i didn't mind per se, in that i don't
really like beer, but it just seemed wrong. People don't come back from frat
parties sober."
"MUD was standing outside his door when i got back. Someone had tied a
bow of toilet paper around his doorknob. i didn't get the significance of it
until it dawned on me that such a thing could well be a 'Don't come in, I'm
getting busy' signal. MUD thought that it might just be some sort of joke.
So i took his keys and stepped up to the door. Everyone looked incredulous and
then ran back to their rooms. i openned the door and stepped inside. MUD's
roommate, Noct, wasn't in there....but his beer stash was. i took an Icehouse,
put it in my pocket (deep pockets), and went back to tell MUD that it was ok
to go into his room. Then i went back to my room and drank the beer. i felt
a little bit better after that. i went to bed."
