Living Groups
Chapter Forty Five.

I enjoy photography, especially the photographing of people. There are so many people around Duke who look glamourously normal. By this I mean that, while they don't look unusually beautiful or handsome, nor do they look truly average either. There are some people just have this inner light which makes them look glamourous in their normality. I am continually trying to capture this essence on film. In general, I've found that capturing essences is a difficult thing to do. My predicament is even worse because I don't know most of the people of whom I want to take pictures; I'm very awkward at going up to strangers and asking them if I can take a picture of them. Often, I end up following interesting-looking people around, waiting for the perfect moment to photograph them (it rarely comes). I wish I was a famous portrait photographer, and that everyone knew my name, so that I could just stop total strangers on the street and ask to take their picture and they would feel honored and not think I was a weirdo.
